What is Bamini Font and Why Do You Need a Converter?

Bamini (பாமிணி) is one of the most widely used legacy 8-bit typewriter font encodings for the Tamil language, especially popular in Sri Lanka and among traditional printing presses, flex banner makers, and DTP operators across Tamil Nadu. Unlike modern Unicode fonts, Bamini does not follow the international UTF-8 encoding standard; instead, it maps Tamil visual glyphs and vowel signs to standard English keyboard characters (ASCII).

Because modern operating systems, web browsers, smartphones, WhatsApp, and social media platforms rely strictly on Unicode, any text written in Bamini font appears as unintelligible English characters (such as jkpo; instead of தமிழ்) when shared on mobile phones or posted on the internet.
